We had two of Sylvia’s cabins full of happy guests who came early and were ready for a beach wedding but the black clouds were circles around the bluff so we retreated to our place. This is the first wedding I’ve worked on and I learned a lot. Trenant Bakery in Ladner was great for the cake. They rent out display cakes and custom build real ones (delicious). I think they are made of wax or something (for those kids that love to plunge their fists into the frosting). It was a Hawaiian theme and all the kids could drink the champagne for the toast (dry wedding). It was on Father’s Day and designed to be short, casual and fun so everyone seemed to enjoy that.

The wedding dress was hand made by Sharon from fabric I bought in a market in Abidjan, Ivory Coast that caught my eye years ago. The men wore the wildest Hawaiian shirts they could find.

The father of the groom performed the ceremony and I got to have the first waltz (which quickly deteriorated to hip-hop) in our basement “dance hall”. The groom was the DJ.

It never rained but it was (unusually) waaay too cold outside in the morning. After the ceremony, the sun came out.

Anyway, thanks to all the neighbours who quickly stepped in to help (we’re so lucky to have such wonderful people around us) everything went very well.

I believe God likes to attend births and weddings and it’s a good thing - - we fathers are useless….

All the guests commented on how much a jewel Point Roberts (and particularly our South Beach) really is. The ocean co-operated with the lowest tides of the year.

What a romantic place to exchange vows..

Islands in the morning. How beautiful is this on a wedding day.
